Keeping a spare tire in the vehicle can take up a lot of space and add to the overall weight of the vehicle – not to mention the expense.  Some car manufacturers have decided not to include a spare tire with the purchase of a vehicle anymore – and you might get a donut tire, instead.  Your Charlotte Toyota service department considers flat tire sealants over spare tires to help you decide if you really need to keep a spare in the trunk:

A quality flat tire sealant can plug a hole in your tire and seal the air leak in a matter of minutes without the need to jack up the car and remove a tire on the side of the road.  There is a little hose attached to the spray can that makes the job a simple task and can get you back on the road in no time at all.

Tire sealants are not designed for a permanent repair of your tire, however.  The idea is you can fix a leak in your tire and help you get to where you were going before the tire was damaged.  You should then make plans as soon as possible to have the tire permanently repaired by a service station, or to get a new tire if required.  This is exactly the same as if you put a donut tire on your car after a flat takes place.  The donut can be used temporarily but is not designed for long term use.
