Valentine's Day Date in Matthews, NCIf the thought of fighting crowds at busy restaurants on Valentine’s Day isn’t your cup of tea, consider doing something different with your sweetheart this year. Here in the Matthews, North Carolina, area, you can find plenty of fun things to do during the daytime that won’t be nearly as crowded.

Discovery Place

The name of this spot might sound like it’s for kids, but every third Friday of the month, this hands-on museum transforms into an adults-only party place. Science on the Rocks is a fun event, and each month has a new theme. In addition to checking out the exhibits, visitors can participate in wild activities, enjoy adult beverages, get decked out for costume contests, and dance to tunes from top local radio stations. The museum hasn’t released the full 2017 schedule yet, but based on previous dates, it is likely that the February event will take place on Friday the 17th.

Cupid’s Undie Run

If you want to do something different with your Valentine this year, sign up for Cupid’s Undie Run. You don’t need to worry about doing too much training, since the run is only a mile in length, but get ready to party hard at this fun outdoor event. Registered runners have access to an open bar, and proceeds will benefit The Children’s Tumor Foundation.

If the name of the race scares you away, don’t fret because there will be runners decked out in all types of outfits. This year it will take place on February 11, and the party starts at noon.

Brunch at Stacks Kitchen

Located on Monroe Road in Matthews, Stacks Kitchen is a favorite among locals and visitors for a tasty breakfast or brunch entrĂ©e. You can visit at any time during the restaurant’s hours of operation because breakfast is served all day. Some of the top menu options include the Crunchy Monkey pancakes, piled high with granola, sliced bananas, and whipped cream, and the Farmer’s Wrap, which includes fresh veggies, scrambled eggs, and provolone cheese wrapped in a tortilla and served with hash browns. You can also choose from the lunch entrees or sample some of the comfort foods.

Picnic at Squirrel Lake Park

If the weather is nice on Valentine’s Day, pack up a picnic of your sweetheart’s favorite foods and head to Squirrel Lake Park. It has several walking trails, so bundle up and hold hands as you walk around and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You can even get some exercise at the 12-hole Frisbee golf course, or just relax next to the lake. The park also has a covered picnic area in case it starts to rain. If you plan to bring your kids on your Valentine’s Day date, they’ll love the playground at this park, located on Pleasant Plains Road.

Instead of taking your beloved on the typical Valentine’s Day date this year, think outside of the box and try something different. It’s always nice to enjoy a more relaxing time together instead of feeling stressed out about crowded restaurants and busy movie theaters.
