PicnicSummer radiates excitement in the Queen City. Add these ideas to your bucket list, and you’re sure to entertain yourself all season. With low morning temperatures in the 60s reaching to the 80s by afternoon, Charlotte offers lovely weather for getting out of the house. Soak up those rays and delight in every minute of extended daylight.

Summer Yoga Series

The U.S. National Whitewater Center presents free outdoor yoga sessions. Meet at Outfitters on 5000 Whitewater Center Parkway 15 minutes before practice, and a certified yoga instructor will lead the way to the class location. Tuesday classes take place at 9:30 a.m. until Aug. 23, Thursday sessions start at 6:30 p.m. until Sept. 22, and Saturday classes usually occur at 9:30 a.m. Check the schedule for festival dates, when Saturday classes take place at 11:30 a.m.  Plan for a 1-hour class, and bring $5 per vehicle for parking, a yoga mat, and a good disposition.

Attend Bands, Brews & BBQs

Carowinds hosts this festival on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from July 31 to Aug. 16. Delight in your favorite barbecue drenched in tomato, vinegar, or mustard sauce starting at 11 a.m. and concluding one hour before the park closes. Let the local music entertain you. Sample craft beer from near and far, including a new beer from Benford Brewing called Carobrew. Get your thrill in with Fury 325, Carowinds’ newest roller coaster. At a speed of 95 miles per hour, you’re on the fast track to amusement.

Make a Splash at Cordelia Park

Nothing feels as good as dipping your toes in the pool on a hot Carolina day. At Cordelia Park, you can benefit from the outdoor swimming pool, or if you prefer to dance around in the rain, take your kids to the sprayground, and cool down as a family. The park includes a full-size basketball court, two playgrounds, a walking trail, a community garden, and a picnic shelter. Needless to say, a summer at Cordelia Park is action-packed.

Enjoy a Day at Adventure Landing

Miniature golf is a great outdoor activity for the family. If golf is not your thing, Adventure Landing boasts a plethora of other diversions. Cast your inhibitions aside, and feel the thrill of acceleration on the exhilarating Go-Kart Course. Let your kids get a taste of sitting behind the wheel on the Rookie Go-Karts Track. You like to get wet but don’t feel like swimming? Head over to the bumper boats, and relish a little family competition. Kiddie rides and batting cages offer other options.

Camp Out Near McDowell Nature Center

Copperhead Island is a camping site you don’t want to miss. Primitive group camping and RV camping are available all summer long. The 1,107 acres of space will give you plenty of room to spread out and explore nature. Fish, view wildlife, use the sand volleyball court, or take your boat out on the water. Playgrounds and picnic areas will ensure the kids’ contentment, and if they get tired of camping, Carowinds is only six miles away! Campsites can be reserved 14 days at a time all year long.
