The Exterior

The Avalon features a wide muscular stance and a sweeping roof. It comes in five different trim levels, starting with the base XLE, which has 17-inch alloy wheels and a rearview camera. Upgrade to the XLE Plus for a sunroof and an automatic dimming rearview mirror. The next-level XLE Premium adds additional technology to the inside, while the Touring trim adds a sportier feel to the outside. Choose the Touring for larger 18-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, and LED headlights and taillights. The top-of-the line Limited trim adds xenon headlights, automatic wipers, and automatic dimming side mirrors.

The Engine and Performance

All trims come standard with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. They also have a six-speed automatic transmission, and they are all front-wheel drive. The new stiffer suspension on the Touring model offers a more confident feel around corners and a smooth ride. You can expect to get 24 mpg combined in the Avalon, with 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

Interior

The inside of the Avalon has a spacious feel both in the front and the back seats. There are high-quality materials throughout, including a supple leather with stitching accents for a luxury look and feel. Three full-size adults can comfortably sit in the back, and the interior offers plenty of storage options. The trunk of the Avalon has 16 cubic feet of space with a wide opening to make it easier to get items in and out. If you want more luxury on the inside, the Premium model adds driver-seat memory settings, and the Limited has premium leather upholstery and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.

Technology

Toyota equipped the Avalon with some of the latest technology, including voice recognition, mobile app integration, and a navigation system. The dash has capacitive-touch switches for both the audio and the climate control that are easy to use and responsive. The base model comes with Bluetooth technology and a 7-inch touch-screen display with the Toyota Entune infotainment system. The Premium trim adds Qi wireless smartphone charging, and the Limited has heated rear seats and a power rear sunshade, along with Safety Connect.

Safety Features

All models come standard with the Safety Sense suite of safety technology. This includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and automatic pre-collision braking. It also includes lane departure warning and intervention and automatic high beams. Upgrade to the Premium model to add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
