As soon as your teen gets her license, she will want to hop behind the wheel and take off. Who wouldn’t? Having control of a car is one of the ultimate forms of freedom. Your Charlotte area Toyota dealership, however, has a few suggestions that could help keep your teen drivers, not to mention everyone else on the road, a little safer.

Rule #1 Limit the Number of Passengers in the Car

More passengers means more distractions. Tell your teen that she can only have two or three passengers in the car at once. The exact number depends on several factors, such as how responsible she is and how big your vehicle is.

Rule #2 Never Use a Cell Phone While Driving

Any distraction can lead to a deadly accident. Cell phones, however, are at the top of the list. Considering that many teens rely on texting to stay in touch with their friends, it’s even riskier for them. If you worry that your teen will text and drive, invest in an app that won’t allow texting while the car is in motion.

Rule #3 Never Drink and Drive

This should be obvious, but a lot of parents never talk to their kids about drinking and driving. Make sure your teen knows that alcohol (not to mention other drugs) can make driving deadly. Even if she has one drink at a party, ask her to call home for help. You might get mad because she made a poor choice, but you should feel glad that she made the responsible decision not to drive.
