Indulge Your Sweet Tooth: Charlotte's Best Desserts - Charlotte, NCIf a good dessert is what makes you smile, then a trip to Charlotte will make your taste buds very happy. This city has several cafes, restaurants, and bakeries that offer delicious treats, and in the past few years, many of the local restaurants have upped their game to bring their guests more imaginative treats. Here is where you can indulge your sweet tooth in Charlotte with some of the best desserts.

The Doughnut

The Doughnut is not your average doughnut. This one-pound treat from Stoke restaurant starts off with a full pound of dough that the chefs fry to order. They then dredge it in sugar and fill it with a huge serving of diplomat cream which is a mixture of pastry cream and whipped cream, and then it’s topped with crumbled Heath bars. This dessert comes with a knife stuck right in it to show diners that they will probably need to share it since it will easily feed several people.

Midwood Pies

Head to Plaza Midwood and Midwood Pies for a delicious variety of pies. Emily makes all of her crust from scratch, so it is light and flaky, and she offers several types of pie to choose from. The coconut creme is fantastic, or you can try the traditional apple pie. She also has an apple and caramel pie if you like your dessert extra sweet. The owner of Midwood makes the pies to order, and she uses fresh local ingredients, so the types of pies differ from season to season.

FunmanChu CupCakes

If you want some of the best cupcakes in the Charlotte area, go to FunmanChu Cupcakes. Stop in here for some traditional flavors, and for a selection of new and innovative cupcakes. Make sure to try the Guinness stout cupcake, the sea salt caramel, or a white Russian cupcake. The small shop has a lot of character, and the owner is very friendly and helpful. If you really want to wake up your taste buds, try the Tennessee Apply Pie made with an apple cupcake soaked in American Born Apple Pie Moonshine topped with homemade apple jam buttercream and dehydrated apples. While several of the cupcakes have alcohol in them, there is also a selection of non-alcoholic treats and kid-friendly flavors. FunmanChu sits on Lamar Ave in Charlotte.

Macaroons at Amelie’s French Bakery

While there are a lot of good choices at Amelie’s French Bakery on North Davidson Street, the macaroons are a highlight. These treats come in a variety of different flavors including balsamic berry, pistachio, salted caramel, and lemon. You can also get a wonderful salted caramel brownie or a fruit tart with fresh custard. This bakery also has some unique desserts such as the rose raspberry eclair. Amelie’s stays open 24 hours a day seven days a week so you can get a sweet treat any time of day or night.

Whether you want something rich and sweet, or a light and fresh dessert, there is a place in Charlotte that will help you curb your sweet craving.
