If you are going to be storing your new or used Toyota for longer than thirty days did you know that there is a checklist to follow in order to protect your vehicle. Not following the list can lead to costly repairs. The following tips for long term vehicle storage are offered by your Toyota serving the Mint Hill North Carolina area Dealer.

Clean and Wax Your Vehicle

Make sure that you have either taken your car through a car wash or have taken the time to thoroughly wash it yourself. A coat of wax is also a good idea in order to protect your vehicle’s finish.

Fill Up Your Gas Tank

Before storing your vehicle make sure you visit the gas station and fill it up. When you leave your tank partially full or on empty you risk condensation building up in the tank. You may additionally want to add a tank stabilizer for extra protection.

Consider Using Jack Stands

Especially if your car is going to be in storage for an extended length of time you will highly want to consider using jack stands. This will allow your wheels and tires to be relieved of withstanding the weight of your car.

Consider a Vapor Barrier

Another great way to protect your car in storage is to use a vapor barrier. A vapor barrier is placed on the ground under your vehicle and helps to prevent ground moisture damage on the underside of your Toyota.

Proper Care for Brakes and More

Finally, while in storage don’t use your emergency brake. Using it can lead to brake corrosion. Additionally, make sure you disconnect your battery to prolong its life, and plug your tailpipe with a rag to help keep moisture out.
