For many people the choice would be obvious, leather is fashionable, sleek, and comfortable, but not everyone agrees.  Your NC Toyota Dealership shares many things to consider when determining if leather or cloth will be the right upholstery for you.

Leather

Before considering leather, you should first think about the climate where you live.  A blistering hot day and bare skin on leather do not mix.  You may need to leave a cloth or cover over your seat to keep it from getting too hot.  Entering a car on a frigid cold day also wouldn’t be very comfortable unless of course your leather seats are heated.

As far as upkeep, leather is overall easier to keep clean.  Wiping mud or grime from your leather seats only takes seconds as opposed to the shampooing you would need to do with cloth seats.  It is also a good idea to condition the leather from time to time.  There are sprays and wipes available to keep the leather from cracking due to sun damage.

Cloth

Some people prefer cloth because it may not feel as hot or cold with climate changes.  Cloth can be comfortable and it seems as most truck owners prefer to have cloth seats over leather seats.  You don’t slide around as much on a cloth seat but it does take more time to clean.

Cloth seats generally do not have a heating feature but aren’t as vulnerable to temperature changes as leather.  Darker cloth colors may hide stains from little people, spills, and dirt or mud.

When deciding on cloth or leather, do some research and then make the choice that fits your lifestyle and personal preferences.
