Keeping a clean car increases its resale value and gives a positive reflection on the owner.  Running the vehicle through the car wash is not always enough, and some spots need specific attention.  Tires can build up lots of dirt and grime in their crevices, which requires more time spent on cleaning them.  At North Carolina Toyota, we want our customers how to clean their tires, step by step.

Choose a Cleaner

There are many types of cleaners available that come in sprays and creams, by brands such as Turtle Wax.  They are manufactured specifically to take the elements of the road off tires.  Because if this specificity, they are better than using soap and water or other household cleaners.

Follow These Steps for Cleaning your Tires

  • Begin with tires that are cool to touch.
  • Spray the tires down with water and make sure you have a bucket designated for this task only.  You don’t want to spread dirt and grease from your tires onto other parts of your car.
  • Follow the directions on your tire cleaner and apply.
  • Thoroughly scrub your tires with a bristled brush to remove grime.  Make sure you get into the tread and other crevices.
  • Do one tire at a time. Rinse and dry them off before going to the next one.
  • Use a terry cloth or a special microfiber detailing towel to dry the tires.  Make sure they are totally dry, or else the cleaner may not work properly.
  • Once dry, apply wax or a tire shine product.  It will add protection from road elements and UV rays that deteriorates the rubber on your tires, and it will give them a great shine.
  • While you’re at it, it doesn’t hurt to check the pressure on the tires, including the spare.
