All cars must pass inspections regularly if they are to be driven legally.  Statistically, 87% of all cars do not pass their inspections at the first appointment, requiring the car owner to get maintenance done and schedule a second appointment for an inspection before they can get a new inspection sticker.  You can improve your chances of passing your car inspection at your first appointment simply by keeping up with your vehicle’s maintenance needs instead of waiting until the inspection day to see what needs to be fixed.  Here are some tips from a Charlotte Toyota dealer for passing your inspection:

All Lights Must Work

To pass an inspection, your turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights and head lights must all work.  Most of the time, you can easily fix the lights in your car by replacing the bulbs when they blow out or changing fuses.  This is quick and easy and you can save money by changing them yourself.

Tires Can’t Be Worn Out

Your tires must have tread if you plan to pass your inspection.  Many cars fail their inspections because the tread is worn out on their tires.  Make your tires last longer by rotating them every 6,000 to 8,000 miles and when the tread has worn out – buy new tires to make sure your car passes inspection.

Fix Glass Problems Immediately

If you get a crack or ding in your windshield, the best thing you can do is have it repaired immediately.  Most of the time you can repair a small glass issue without replacing the entire windshield but if you let the problem go, it can eventually turn into a major problem that will require a full windshield replacement to fix.  Cracks and glass problems of a certain size or placement on the windshield can cause a car to fail the inspection.
