phoneWith the constantly developing technologies of today, there has never been a more exciting time to drive your car. With everything from autonomous driving tech to apps that show you where you parked, being a driver is getting a lot safer and simpler. To help you stay up-to-date on all the latest driving tech, here’s a list of the four most useful apps for today’s drivers.

Google Maps

Much more accurate than Apple’s Maps, the Google Maps app is hands-down the best navigational app available. Not only will Google Maps give you directions to get you where you need to go, the app offers a variety of pathways you can take depending on your preference. With constant live traffic updates, you’ll know which route is fastest.

Trying to find somewhere to eat? Google Maps can also offer information and recommendations on what restaurants, attractions, or other locations are around you at any given moment. Since the Google Maps is free and compatible with both iPhone and Android phones, downloading this app is a no-brainer if you’re a driver or consider yourself navigationally-challenged.

Waze

Although Google Maps is a great navigational app, the Waze app has it beat as the best community-based traffic and navigation app. Unlike Google Maps, Waze draws its traffic information from fellow drivers in the area. Once you download, you’ll start as a baby Waze-r and can work your way up to various Waze-r levels by contributing accurate traffic and driving information to your fellow drivers.

Waze gives you a heads up when you are approaching a police officer, accident, or traffic jam earlier than most other navigational apps out there since it uses intel from fellow drivers on the road with you. This innovative app is free to download and compatible with both iPhone and Android devices.

iParkedHere

Forgot where you parked your car? Don’t worry, there’s an app for that.

Developed by a 17-year-old, this app remembers where you parked your car and allows you to add the amount of time left before you’ll need to move it. Never wander around parking lots again trying to find your ride after you download this free app from the iTunes Store. Android users will have to search for a similar app in Google Play, since this app is only available for iPhone devices.

PlugShare

Electric car owners can rejoice because they’ll never have to go looking for an open charging station again. The PlugShare app allows users to view over 40,000 charging stations currently operating in the U.S. The app shows you which stations are in-use and which are available, so you never have to run out of juice again. This smart app is free and offered on both iPhone and Android devices.

Be the smartest driver on the road by downloading these four useful apps. Not only are they free, but they can get you to your destination faster, alert you if any cops are nearby, remind you where you parked your car, and let you know which EV charging stations are around and available.
