As of 2012, Toyota earned the impressive designation of being the most fuel-efficient full-line automotive manufacturer, which came from the NTHSA. There are plenty of options to choose from if you’re looking for a car that gets great gas mileage.

Prius

The Toyota Prius has been a top seller for drivers looking to reduce their emissions and save at the fuel pump. For the last decade, it has been one of the only options for those set on buying a hybrid vehicle. Since then, other manufacturers have come out with their own versions of hybrid cars, but few can compare to the durability and appeal of the Prius.

The 2017 model is no exception, with several options for drivers who want a wagon or for those who prefer a smaller version of the iconic car. You can even opt for the Prius Prime, an all-electric version. But even the standard Prius gets an estimated 52 mpg combined, which is very impressive for a hybrid. One of its competitors gets 10 mpg less than that, which is a substantial difference. It’s also more affordable than other hybrids, with a starting price coming in almost $10,000 lower than other options.

Camry

When driving around the streets in just about any U.S. city, it’s hard not to spot at least one Toyota Camry. It’s one of the best-selling vehicles nearly every year, with durability and reliability that makes it hard to beat.

However, Toyota engineers don’t simply ride on its past success; they are always looking to improve the sedan. The 2017 model comes with standard features like automatic headlights, heated side mirrors, a rearview camera, power driver seat, Bluetooth connectivity, and Siri Eyes Free for iPhones. You can choose a sportier version with specially-tuned suspension, a leather-trimmed steering wheel with paddle shifters, and unique interior and exterior styling. There is also a higher-end Camry designed for comfort.

The EPA estimates vary based on the engine, since there are two options available. With the standard four-cylinder, you get about 28 mpg combined, which breaks down to 25 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. The bigger V6 drops the fuel efficiency slightly, with EPA estimates coming in at 24 mpg combined, or 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. That is fairly standard among other sedans with V6 engines.

Yaris

If you want to save on fuel and don’t need a lot of extra space, the 2017 Toyota Yaris is the perfect car. It comes standard with a manual transmission, although an automatic is available as an upgrade. It falls into the subcompact hatchback segment, and the EPA rated it at 32 mpg combined. The Yaris also has a nice, wide windshield and low profile, making for great visibility while driving. It comes with a standard 6.1-inch touchscreen display and infotainment system.

Decrease your fuel costs by upgrading to one of these efficient 2017 Toyota vehicles.
