Even car owners who go out of their way to make sure the outside of their vehicle is washed and waxed on a regular basis often neglect the interior of their vehicles.  When is the last time you gave your Toyota a thorough cleaning on the inside and took care of the upholstery?    Here are some tips for cleaning your upholstery and vehicle interior from a NC Toyota dealership:

Make a Plan of Action

One reason the interior of vehicles tends to get dirty is because there is no plan for action or schedule for cleaning.  If you keep up with the exterior, you probably go to the car wash on the same day each week or month, and having that consistency means it gets done.  Make a plan to vacuum the inside of your car and clean the dashboard and interior at least once a month.

Dashboard, Vinyl and Plastic

Use a damp rag to remove dust and dirt from the dashboard and any vinyl and plastic surfaces inside your car.  Doing this regularly will keep it clean and prevent build up.  Also take a minute to remove any trash or wrappers that are in the car.

Upholstery Tips

The correct way to clean your upholstery depends on the type of upholstery you have: cloth or leather.

Cloth seats – if you vacuum your cloth seats at least once a month, you will probably have a well maintained vehicle.  It doesn’t take much to keep cloth seats clean.  If you should spill something on the seats, clean as much of it as possible as soon as it happens, and follow up with a rug cleaner if it leaves a stain.

Leather seats – when caring for leather seats, you will want to use cleaning product specifically designed for leather.  Follow the instructions for the product and use the leather conditioner to keep your seats soft and prevent the color from fading.
