Traveling during winter months requires a bit more preparation than the rest of the year, particularly if you will be driving through areas that normally get snow or ice storms.  Here are some winter travel tips from a North Carolina Toyota dealer to encourage a safe journey:

Keep Blankets in Your Car

If you normally experience mild winters, you may not think about what happens if you should break down in an area that has below freezing temperatures.  It’s always a good idea to have a blanket or two in your car in case you need to stay warm while waiting for help after a break down.

Have Snow Tires Put On Your Car

If you are going to be traveling through areas that usually get snow, having snow tires put on your vehicle is a good idea.  They will help maintain traction on slippery roads, much better than non-snow tires.

Pack Supplies in the Trunk

You’ll also want to throw a few extra supplies in the trunk or backseat than you would normally bring with you on your daily errands.  Include some snacks and water in case you are delayed or waiting for help to arrive for any reason; a first aid kit to treat minor injuries or a headache, and a flashlight are ideal supplies to keep in your car for winter road trips.  If you have a cell phone, bring along a car charger so you can use it even if the battery is dead.
