kidThe holidays are a great time to check out local events and festivities with your family. There are plenty of activities in Charlotte to get you and your kids in the holiday spirit. Introduce them to Santa, take a trip to the North Pole, get the family together for a night of ice skating, or teach your kids about culture with a West African ballet.

Breakfast With Santa

Santa Claus is coming to town for breakfast at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and wants you to join him! Enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast while your kids write a letter to Santa and decorate an ornament. Then, head over to the High Octane Theater for the Dr. Seuss’s holiday classic, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Finally, each child can get their picture taken with Santa and special guest, Champ the Cheetah.

This event is for all ages. It takes place on Dec. 19 with three sessions at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., and 10 a.m. Admission is $16 but children under two and Rookie Racers are free. There are also military and senior citizen discounts.

Polar Express

All aboard the Polar Express! Get ready to travel to the North Pole in your pajamas. Take the journey in IMAX using state-of-the-art CGI technology to create a unique blend of real world and fantasy.

This event is for children up to eight years old. It takes place on Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and on Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Discovery Place KIDS in Charlotte. Meet in the I CAN Create room to get your ticket and some hot cocoa. Admission is $9 for children and $10 for adults, with military discounts.

WBT Holiday On Ice

This outdoor ice skating rink is a holiday tradition! Whether you want to skate, sip hot chocolate, or just soak in the holiday spirit, it’s the perfect place to bring your family together. Lace up your skates and glide along 8,000 square feet of ice under the stars with a view of the city skyline.

WBT Holiday On Ice is in the NASCAR Hall of Fame Plaza in Charlotte. It’s open until Jan. 3 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $10 per person plus $2 if you need to rent skates.

Shabutaso Presents Munekera

Introduce your children to a day of culture and new things at this ballet featuring the West African tradition of dance, music, and storytelling. This type of dance gained popularity in the 1950s by the Guinean President Sekou Toure. It’s the story of a young woman’s love and her coming of age, with an underlying theme of respect among different generations.

Munekera is an event aimed towards children up to eight years of age. It takes place at the McColl Family Theater in Charlotte from Jan. 9 to 13.

There’s something here for everyone to do. The holidays open up even more opportunities to get the family together and to create moments that will last a lifetime. Whether you want to get the kids in the holiday spirit or find something fun for the whole family, Charlotte is the place to be.
