toyota-wheelThe 2017 Toyota Camry is available in four different trim levels, including the SE and LE. While these two trim levels have some commonalities, they also have some differences. Keep reading to learn more about the differences between these two popular vehicles from Toyota.

1. Exterior

When you’re looking at the front of the SE and LE, you’ll see that the LE comes standard with projector-beam halogen headlights with an automatic on and off feature. On the other hand, the SE takes the style of those headlights up a notch by adding black sport trim bezels. Additionally, you’ll see a piano-black sport mesh lower front grille on the Camry SE. Finally, the other difference you’ll see on the exterior is that the LE comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, while the SE comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels with a graphite finish.

2. Interior

Inside the Camry SE and LE, you’ll find a lot of great standard equipment, such as a backup camera, 6.1-inch touchscreen display, and Bluetooth connectivity. However, you’ll notice a difference in the seats. The LE comes with fabric-trimmed seats, while the SE comes with SofTex front seats.

SofTex is a synthetic leather that’s resistant to stains, easier to clean, and doesn’t wear out like traditional leather. Finally, the steering wheel on the LE comes with hands-free voice command controls, while the steering wheel on the SE includes this feature plus leather trim.

3. Safety and Convenience Features

The Camry SE and LE both come with important safety features such as anti-lock brakes, 10 airbags, and Whiplash-Injury-Lessening (WIL) seats. Both vehicles also come with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), which helps to stabilize a vehicle when it goes around a curve, and also helps to prevent side skids. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), cars with VSC can cut down on single-vehicle accidents by 35 percent.

While both the SE and LE come standard with a Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) to help you keep track of the pressure in your tires, the SE upgrades that convenience with a direct pressure readout.

4. Performance

Both the LE and SE come with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. They also come with a six-speed automatic transmission. However, the SE adds paddle shifters for even more fun and control. This extra feature, mounted on the steering wheel, lets you enjoy the performance of a manual transmission with the convenience of an automatic one. Whenever you want to upshift or downshift through the gears, simply tap on the paddle shifters and move through the gears to increase your performance.

5. Miles Per Gallon and Price

Both the LE and SE get an estimated 24 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined. The starting MSRP for the Camry LE is $23,070. Since the Camry SE comes with added benefits and features, its starting MSRP is $23,840.

If you’re trying to decide between the Camry SE and LE, it helps to understand these key differences so you can decide which model is right for you.
