North Carolina Toyota drivers should keep safety at the top of their priority list every time they get behind the wheel. In order to avoid auto accidents, especially at high risk areas such as near traffic lights, it is important to remain alert and err on the side of caution.

There are many vehicle accidents that occur when drivers attempt to speed through a yellow caution light. The yellow traffic light is meant to caution drivers to slow down and prepare for a red light stop – not to speed up to make it through before the light turns red. It is important to follow safety protocol and slow down when approaching a light that has turned yellow.

Traffic lights are not all the same. Some will grant the right of way to drivers that are turning left by displaying a green arrow. It is important to understand how each traffic light works and follow those rules of the road for safety. Also, it is your responsibility as a driver to check for oncoming traffic in addition to following the light’s direction. Otherwise, non-alert drivers can go through a red light and an accident can occur.

You also need to look out for pedestrians on the road that do not pay attention to the traffic signals. Jaywalkers and those that think they can beat the traffic can pose serious safety risks to everyone on the road. In most instances, pedestrians do have the right of way for crossing in the crosswalk. When behind the wheel remain alert to pedestrians at times even if they are the ones no following the law.
