Drivers know that car insurance is required in order to drive a vehicle.  Car insurance will help you if you are involved in a car accident whether the fault is yours or another driver’s, by paying for personal injuries, vehicle or property damages. Some people make a mistake of only insuring one driver in the household because they want to save money on their car insurance premiums, but here is some information from Charlotte Toyota regarding why you will want to reconsider that decision:

Insurance is for the Driver, Not the Car

You may think because you have only one vehicle for you and your spouse that you only need to buy car insurance for one driver and the car.  Anyone who drives your Toyota should be added to your insurance policy, however.  In fact, most insurance companies will ask you for the names of all drivers in your household who are over the age of 15, even if they do not yet have a license.  If your teenager has a learner’s permit and will be driving your car to learn, they should be added to your policy.   If you have a spouse, roommate, or live-in boyfriend or girlfriend who drives your car regularly – they should be added to your car insurance policy, as well.

Potentially Denied Insurance Claims

If a car insurance provider discovers that you have withheld information about other drivers using your vehicle, they can deny an insurance claim if that person is involved in an accident while driving your car.  If you and your significant other share a vehicle, make sure you are both listed on the policy as drivers to avoid the denial of insurance claims.
