If you have a family road trip coming up in the future, making some plans before you go and knowing what to pack can make all the difference. If you want to have a pleasant ride to your destination, then consider the following survival tips from Matthew North Carolina Toyota.

Plan out Your Route

Before leaving home make sure you have planned out your route. Yes the modern day GPS can be a lifesaver, but having a general idea where you are going before you leave home just makes sense. It never hurts to pick up a road map and get directions for your destination.

Safety Comes First

While on the road make safety a priority. Make sure your kid’s safety seats are properly installed and seat belts are in working order. Pack a road side assistance kit and a first aid kit just in case. You should also review with your kids before you go about the importance of using their seatbelts and no horseplay while driving.

Don’t Forget the Entertainment

If you are hoping to keep from hearing “are we there yet” every five minutes, planning out some roadway entertainment might help. Pack books to read, travel and electronic games to play, MP3 players with headphones and consider a portable DVD player.

Snacks Can Save the Day

Kids tend to always get hungry as soon as you hit the road. Pack snacks and drinks to hand out during your trip. This can save time and money as you won’t need to stop as often or spend a small fortune on snacks along the way.

Everything Else You Need To Know

Other items you probably want on board include Kleenex, paper towels, sanitizing wipes, small garbage bags, pillows, blankets and jackets for everyone. Make your vehicle as comfortable as possible for the drive. Finally, be sure to take breaks. With kids your best bet is a road side rest area where they can get out and run off some of their built up energy.
