With gasoline prices consistently high and regularly increasing, people look for ways to reduce their fuel use to help save money.  Some of the gas-saving tips you hear about often won’t really save you money.  Here are some common myths for techniques that are supposed to save gas from your Matthews Toyota Dealer:

Fueling at the Crack of Dawn

Some people believe putting gas in their car before it gets hot in the summer will make a difference to your gas efficiency and expense.  The theory proves false because the temperature of gasoline stays stagnant regardless of the temperature outside.

Using Premium Fuels

There is a myth that using the more expensive fuel will improve gas mileage, helping you avoid fueling up as often.  This is not true – while premium fuels will improve your Toyota’s performance, it will not improve the number of miles per gallon your vehicle gets.

Maintenance in Effort to Improve Gas Mileage

There are certain car maintenance tasks that will help you maintain your vehicle’s gas mileage, and certainly certain types of car maintenance that you ignore will cause your car to get fewer miles per gallon than it would otherwise.  But there are some myths surrounding maintenance tasks such as adding “gas-saving” parts or changing filters more often that will not actually improve your Toyota’s gas mileage.  If you are unsure which maintenance tasks you can do to improve your car’s gas mileage, speak to a mechanic at our Matthews Toyota service department for advice.
