Recently, we discussed common myths that won’t actually save gas or improve the number of miles per gallon your Toyota will travel.  In this post, we’ll offer you some fuel efficiency tips to help you save money on your gasoline expenses.  The cars on our Mint Hill Toyota dealership lot are very fuel efficient when compared to many other vehicles, but there are still some things you can do to better improve your fuel efficiency:

Slow Down

Most everyone is always in a hurry to get from one appointment or destination to the next.  When you drive fast, you use more fuel.  In fact, most studies show that traveling at 55 miles per hour or less offers the best fuel efficiency.

Don’t Let the Car Idle

In the winter, many people start their car and let it sit in the driveway or garage for several minutes before driving to allow the engine to warm up.  While it is a good idea to do this in extremely cold weather, it is also using fuel.  Only let the car idle to warm up when absolutely necessary, and never leave the car running to run inside a store or perform other errands.  Not only does it waste fuel, but it’s dangerous.  What if a child climbed inside?!

Reduce Weight in the Vehicle

The more weight the car must carry, the more gasoline is used.  You can improve gas mileage by removing unnecessary weight from your car.  People who travel frequently may end up accumulating a number of items in their trunk or backseat – but you can help save gas by removing everything that isn’t needed for the trip.
