One car is stolen every 33 seconds, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Here at Matthews Toyota we give you these tips on how to keep your car safe and prevent that devastating theft.

Simple Tips to Keep Your Car Safe.

  • Keep your doors locked and windows up. It is very simple for someone to boost your car if you allow them easy access. They will take less time and cause less disturbance.
  • Don’t keep your car keys in your house door lock. It is very easy for a thief to smash through or get in the door and take your keys, hide them out of sight.
  • Don’t leave valuables in plain sight. A smash and grab is still expensive and at the best inconvenient.
  • Don’t have spare keys inside your car. The car thieves are very quick at finding even the best hiding place.

The above tips are all easy and cheap to do but you can do more.

More Tips to Keep Your Car Safe

  • Fit a lock over your steering wheel. These prevent the wheel from being turned, so the car can’t be driven away.
  • Fit an alarm. These can be either DIY or professionally fit. Most alarms have a warning light, a good sign to the thief to try an easier target.
  • Install an immobilizer. These devices immobilize the engine, preventing it from being started without the key.
  • Have a GPS tracking system fitted. This is a bit more expensive, but if the car is lost you can track it to its exact location.

These tips will help prevent your car from being stolen, follow as many as you can and keep your car safe.
