Some drivers like to see how long they can drive before they have to get gas or they run out completely.  When the national average for a gallon of gas has been hovering around $4.00, it’s no mystery why people are putting off their visit to the gas station as long as possible – but your North Carolina Toyota dealer wants to give you a few reasons for putting gas in your tank sooner:

Avoid Getting Stranded: the most obvious reason to make sure you have gas in your tank is to avoid getting stranded if you run out.  Not only is it inconvenient to have to get someone to deliver gas to your vehicle, but it can be expensive if you need to call roadside assistance services or it can even be dangerous.  If your car stalls in the middle of an intersection or in a busy road, it may not start back up to allow you to drive it to safety on the side of the road.  Prolonging your trip to the gas station is not your best move when trying to save a few dollars because running out of gas will always cost more than had you simply put some gas in the tank.

Avoid Fuel Pump Damage: your vehicle relies on gasoline to drive (unless you are one of the few people in the country who owns a 100% electric vehicle) but the gasoline also serves another purpose in the operation of your car, too.  Your gasoline keeps the electric fuel pump motor cool, and if you don’t have enough gas in the tank to do the job effectively, the pump will suck in air and overheat.  This will result in the need for a new fuel pump.
