Spring and summer can be tough for people who suffer from seasonal allergies like tree pollen.  Tree pollen is a green powder-like substance that is everywhere for several weeks this time of year, and if it causes problems with your breathing, it can make riding in the car extremely uncomfortable.  Here are some tips for easier breathing during allergy season from your NC Toyota dealer in Mint Hill.

Have the Air Filter Replaced Annually: Many people aren’t aware that their car has a cabin air filter.  This filter is in most vehicles newer than the year 2000 and is designed to clean the air you pull into your car using the air conditioner or heater.  If you set your air conditioning system to recirculate the air inside your car, the filter will have to do less work and be more effective for a longer period of time.  Check your car’s owner manual for location of the air filter and how to replace it.

Don’t Ride With Windows Open: Sure, the spring and summer is exactly the time of year when you like to ride around town with the windows rolled down, but if your allergies are bothering you the best thing you can do is keep the windows sealed and get air from your filtered air conditioning unit.

Wash Pollen Off Your Car: Help prevent pollen from getting into your car by washing it frequently.  This will also prevent your paint from being scratched if someone should touch your car.  A pollen-covered car can become scratched if someone accidentally leans up against it or touches it as they walk by.
