We can’t think of a single driver who looks forward to the day they see flashing lights on a cop car behind them.  If you rode through the last red light, or have a headlight out, or make any number of other traffic infractions – there is a good chance you will get pulled over by a police officer.  Here are some tips for what to do if you’re pulled over from Charlotte Toyota:

Get Off the Road and Stop

On movies and television shows when driver’s see flashing lights behind them, many times they speed up and try to lose the cop!  Obviously, this is the wrong answer.  Look for a safe area that you can pull your car over and stop as soon as you see the police officer put his or her lights on behind you.

Find Your License and Registration

Chances are good the police officer will need to look at your license and registration, so while you wait for the cop to approach your vehicle, you may as well dig them out of your wallet and glove compartment.  Roll your window down so you can talk with the officer.

Be Polite

Your best bet is to remain polite and calm while answering the officer’s questions.  Give the officer the documents needed, and answer questions truthfully.  With any luck, the officer will tell you not to do it again and send you on your way without a ticket!  If you do get a ticket, remember to send in your fine or attend court as required to avoid bigger problems.
