Enjoying the fruits of local farmers’ labor is one of the many benefits of living in Matthews. The Matthews Farmers Market (open every Saturday from 8am-noon) offers a variety of locally-grown foods including produce, meats, and flowers. All items are grown within 30 miles of Matthews and picked the day of the market – and by buying direct from the local farmers, not only do you get better prices than those at the supermarket, you know exactly where your food is coming from. Also available in the market is a selection of handmade items by local residents, including pottery, soaps, and candles – and you can even purchase baked goods!

The goal of the community farmer’s market is to provide residents with locally-raised goods to protect the small farms in the area and make fresh, nutritious produce available in the immediate area.

Throughout the market hours, shoppers can enjoy live cooking demonstrations by top local chefs local, and a variety of family-friendly events, activities, and contests also go on during market hours – including live music!

Experiencing the local flare of the Matthews area is a great way to spend the morning outdoors. Now in its 24th year of operation, the Matthews Farmers Market website offers a list of the available vendors and handy shopping tips for first-time visitors.

Summer is not the only time you can buy fresh at the market. Seasonal vegetables in the winter, spring, and fall are also available based on the availability of local farms in the area. The market’s website offers tips and recipe ideas that incorporate the fresh meats and produce available from local farmers.
