Parks in Charlotte, NCFor those who want to spend some time outside enjoying the fresh air, Charlotte has several nice parks. Whether you are in the uptown area or in the heart of the city, there is something for everyone. Check out these awesome parks in Charlotte that you can visit any time of year.

1. Freedom Park

Freedom Park sits right on East Boulevard in downtown Charlotte. This large park offers many different activities for visitors of all ages, including a playground, a running trail with obstacles, and various sports fields. There is even a Carolina Panthers training area with obstacles for the kids to try that includes a 40-yard dash. The baseball fields have batting cages, and there are five outdoor shelters with grills for those who want to have a picnic while they enjoy lake views. Parking is free, and in the summer it hosts several festivals.

2. McAlpine Creek Park

Off Route 74 on Monroe Road, you’ll find McAlpine Creek Park. This is home to more than 3 1/2 miles of trails for runners to explore. The paths also allow bikers, making this a fun place to get away from the city and enjoy the fresh air. There is also a large pond where you can fish if you have a permit, and there are several soccer fields. McAlpine also has a dog park for those who want to exercise their furry friends. Before heading here in the fall you’ll want to check the calendar, because many high schools use this area for their cross-country races.

3. Romare Bearden Park

Romare Bearden Park is a new park that sits across from BB&T Ballpark on South Church Street. This park offers large grassy areas with lots of trees for shade and a beautiful view of the Charlotte skyline. There is plenty of space to sit and have a picnic before or after a game, and there are public restrooms available. Head to the park to take part in a yoga or fitness class, or enjoy the live entertainment during the summer months.

4. Cordelia Park

Cordelia Park is located inside Charlotte’s art district. This is the place to go with the kids when the weather is warm so they can swim in the outdoor pool and slide down the water slide. There is also a splash pad if you have little ones that are not big enough for the large pool. In the winter when there is some snow on the ground, Cordelia Park has a great sledding hill. Make sure to check out the view of the Charlotte skyline when you get to the top of the hill before you take your trip down. You’ll also find walking trails, playgrounds, and basketball courts, along with community gardens. Cordelia Park sits on North Davidson Street in Charlotte.

Whether you are visiting Charlotte or you live in the area, these are some of the best parks where you can spend the day or just the afternoon enjoying the fresh air.
